The line between “big media” and blogging continues to blur. Violet Blue, the well-known sex blogger and podcaster, is now officially joining a newspaper founded in 1865. She starts tonight when her column is posted to the SF Chronicle’s online newspaper, sfgate.com.

Go read her first official post (and Violet’s columnist page to easily find future posts). As you’ll hear her explain in the interview, the SF Chronicle took out all the links in her post, but you can see them all on her own blog. (Huh? Yeah.) Obviously blogger and old newspaper must do a little more dancing to get things right. She’s clear that it’s still an open conversation as they figure it out.

Speaking with Violet, Ryanne and I were amazed at how right-on she is.
Violet speaks of how the deal with the SF Chronicle came about…and how she continues to fight to teach them how bloggers operate. Links, transparency, etc. As more of us start producing content for traditional outlets, I think we’ll all have Violet to thank for setting a good, strong example. I love that the intelligence of the blogging culture is finally seeping into mainstream media.
By the way, go sex!

The fact that they took off the links is not cool, but I’m glad to read on her blog that she is working to change that. All in all, it is still a revolutionary step in terms of sex columns in SF – rock on Violet!

Yay Violet! This so cool. Hopefully the muckity mucks at the Chron will get it with the links. It might take lots of links to them from blogs admonishing them on their ridiculous stance to do so. Or maybe Violet’s charm, which they obviously appreciate, will win out in the end. I like the analogy of little bugs in the jar with holes in the lid! Now I know why I feel like I’m constantly being leered at. Yay Violet!

This is fucking fantastic. Finaly in this sickening censored America someone tells the ignorants it is OK to have sex. I freaked out the first year I started to live in America about a censored pen drawing of a naked woman on TV that was made blurry so you could not see her nipples. And 2 minutes after that you see people shot to dead without any blur. Woow I admire your work and hope someday we can add sex to our voacabulary again as a normal word. Fuck censorship we need more love.

I love this video which chronicles the start of the venture. Now knowing that it has ended this way: http://www.tinynibbles.com/blogarchives/2010/03/will-the-last-one-at-sf-gate-san-francisco-chronicle-please-turn-out-the-lights.html
