Here’s the intro day at the Airjaldi Summit in Dharamsala, India. It’s pretty amazing to see about 200 people show up from all over the world to discuss how wifi networks can spread in developing communities. Dharamsala is a good example of how intelligent use of appropriate technology can help a community get online. The big question is: what are people going to be using the web for? From our initial research, it seems the Tibetan community is using it to do Voice Over IP, as well as helping local businesses connect to the outside world. By teaching some workshops later next week, maybe video can become a part of their online experience.
