Yep, it’s true. We’re moving back across the country to the mountains of Virginia. You might remember our video about recycled paper insulation that we were installing at Jay’s dad’s garage in Virginia…well, that’s the place! We’re excited to continue to learn more about living a sustainable life and we plan to keep documenting this process on Ryan Is Hungry. We also plan to take our mini-documentaries of other folks hacking the sustainable lifestyle to another level. Thanks for the year of total awesomeness. We’ve learned so much from all of you, thanks for following us and contributing back to the conversation!

cool - good luck out there guys!
YES!!! The East Coast has been missing you guys! Rural? Funky? Empty? That’s how I like it.
Crap I can’t believe a year’s gone by and I hardly saw ya! Better let me know when you come back to visit!
Good luck!
Whoa. That’s quite the change. Good for you guys
The Appalachians - some people say the Ozarks was settled by people who couldn’t make it in the Appalachians.
That is really cool. In fact, you’re just moving to a big version of our house, which is also on the side of a big hill.

You guys will find interesting people wherever you go, but I think this will be particularly slow.
that´s exciting. i´d like too!
I’m still in a little bit of shock over the move even though we’ve known for a little bit. But you guys do everything in a fearless way that you fully own, so why should this be any different!
HOLY CRAP! thats so exciting and scary at the same time. Looks like I need to get to SF before April. Good luck to you both and I look forward to your journey.
This is awesome news! Congratulations on making such a cool decision. I can’t wait to see the new work as you make it, too.
OMG!
you guys are my freakin heroes -to continue traveling to cultivate your cause and remain so focused on it -I’m in awe of you.
…does this mean you’ll be making some trips to NYC now that you’ll be back on the east coast?…:)
That sounds like great news.
Good luck with the move and future endeavors.
I’m going to miss having you be such a short flight away, but I am SO looking forward to seeing all the things you’ll do next. Your own little corner of the world! Sweet!
Wowowowow! East coast again?@?! Psyche.
Can’t wait to see more of you two.
Wow. Always more adventures. Good luck guys.
The end titles made me smile, though - anyone who watches this one first might think that Jay is Ryanne and vice versa.
Awesome.. that’s great news! You won’t be too far away from me. Looking fwd to seeing videos of your trip to across country.
Whoa. Congrats — that sounds like great news.
We’ll have to come down & visit via Baltimore!
Yay, more vloggers in Virginia ftw! Let me know if you two want to go on a farm tour in Central Virginia–
Hello guys,
Love you too. Keeping true to your hart is inspirational and heartwarming.
AWESOME! I had the last two days off yesterday, and I spent it chainsawing, clearing the house site. It’s nice you guys have something to work with already. I can’t wait to see you guys this spring. It’s coming up soon.
That’s almost in London. Just a shout away from the top of one of those mountains.
I’m going to have to organise a satellite launch for your rural high speed internet connection. Should be easy enough. Just a few phone calls to the right people.
What things you will show us. Can’t wait!
My best to the both of you:)
Ryan. Screw Virginia. MOVE TO CANADA!
OMG! I’m so surprised. (Wink. Wink.) The sad thing is that I never go to Virginia so when am I gonna see you guys?
thanks for all the high fives. It’ll definitely be a cool challenge making videos in that area.
We’ll have plenty of space and would love for any of you to come visit for a week at a time. It’s right in the mountains.
oh yeah there will definitely be trips up to NYC for sure!
thanks for all the support!
Whoa! Congratulations on the decision and good luck back on the east coast!
Glad to see you returning to our wonderful East Coast. We better alert Jonny Goldstein in Hyattsville, Maryland that “Challenger has re-entered the atmosphere & is heading toward touch down!”
We’ve missed both of you! Now, you’ll be close enough to help President Obama make the world a better and greener place.
Wow!! That’s great, so are you driving or flying back? If you are driving, you have a place to stay if you want! This is cool, you can bet Glenna and I will visit!
we’re driving across the country…and plan to visit people on the way. Cincinnati is a stop for sure.
Coolness! (Literally!)
Wow, what a choice to make. I can see from the pictures though that you will have plenty of space to build the world’s most efficient and green clothesline.
Just remember to be flexible while you are adjusting to a new culture. The “salt of the earth” people will test you-if you pass, you will have friends for life and access to some of the most groovy old ideas out there.
Safe travels
Drew
A big hug goes out to you guys, you lit up the Bay Area while you spent time here.
We will miss you being close by, but will stay in touch with your wonderful journey. Best Wishes, Dave
I am so, so jealous. That’s such a great looking house and the countryside looks exciting and wild. Keep us all informed about how it goes… I’ll definitely be coming to stay when I do a big tour of the states in the next couple of years (gotta plan ahead if you’re going to sail).
Good luck kids. Sorry we never ran into you in SF. Virginia is cool. They have have pinecones that are good to nibble on at least.
Wow, that’s crazy awesome, but slightly sad news!! I already wanna come visit. The mountains really are the best part of Virginia. Y’all will be stoked and be saying y’all a lot more!
How ironic that I’ll probably end up meeting you guys in person on the east coast when you lived only 30 mins away all this time. Your commitment and sense of adventure continues to inspire - what an exciting new chapter!
It all sounds VERY interesting and intriguing - the coursework and the move. I bet you will love living in a rural setting in Virginia. I will lobby your dad for us to come visit! I can already sense your vibe back on the atlantic coast. xxoo
Awesome!
Hey you’ll be within a days drive. And looks like there would be some room for a tent or two also.
Fantastic, Have a great move.
I’m so behind! Wow, what a brave move — congrats you guys.
I’m sure you will learn a lot.
If you’re passing anywhere near Minneapolis let me know.
xoxo
Really Awesome !!
The land, the space, the ‘our little house’, the trees, the air, …
And the rich stories you will be finding there!
Safe journey, safe move eastward. Can’t wait to see what you discover.
Awesome! Make sure you mix the “Green Acres” theme song into a future post
WOW!! We’ve never met, but we should have. What you are doing is a dream of mine!My lady won’t even consider it. I look forward to hear how it goes for you both of you and all the adventures you’re going to have!! Keep on blogging. -PEACE-
Even though I knew, I got all sad watching this. Sad for myself - happy for you. All the time I’d planned my move to BC, I’d been so psyched about being able to drive down to visit you in SF. Ho hum.
But we’ll both be embarking on our rural adventures at the same time. I can’t wait to see the gauntlet you lay down for me to pick up. You’re so rich with knowledge now! All those people we’ve watched you interviewing who’ve come up with incredible innovative ways to build/grow/live… I’m depending on your films to challenge and inspire me to get my hands dirty with sustainable gusto. I’ll be videoblogging my side, too, of course. Time to dust off that copy of Walden.
So happy for you.

Enjoyed what you have acheved. Looking forwards to your next project.
I am a 65 year old who has a son living in Florida. I am most envious at what you are doing. Wish I was your age again. Good luck. Bill
You are so lucky! I used to have 2.4 acres in Southwest VA with a greenhouse and solar electricity. Our neighbors were farmers and we used to get fresh eggs and goat milk. I moved to CO in 2006, but will be moving back in November, 2008. I am so psyched! I grew up in the NY metropolitan area, but my heart is in the South!
hey Nancy, if you’re going through the Shenandoah Valley…stop by our place. Just send us an email.
