Our dear friend, co-creator of the amazing Freshtopia.net, Oscar Grimm passed away last week after fighting brain cancer for the last two years. We are deeply saddened that the world has lost such a smart, creative and caring person. Our hearts go out to his partner in crime Tanja Andrews.
We first met Oscar and Tanja in 2006 at the Geeks Off The Grid Montana meet up, though they were our Bay Area neighbors at the time. Soon we visited their Oakland warehouse space where Freshtopia was born. The treated us to raw chocolate treats and fine conversation about being geeky and eating raw. Oscar, you will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this. Thanks for sharing, Ryanne/Jay.
It’s another sad day.
Thank you so much, Ryanne. Much love to you and Jay from my secret recovery spot. I look forward to seeing you again when I get back to the Bay Area. Hope all is well for you both.
Love and veggies,
Tanja
So sad. The world was a better place for him being here.
Thank you for the touching video clip that sums up the vitality that Tanja and Brian(Oscar)shared. I knew Brian when he was part of my son’s high school nerdy geek group in Michigan. My son was the oldest and weirdest and Brian was the youngest, quietest and most sensible. I could always count on Brian to bring my son back to reality with his extremes. Brian was my son’s Bestman at his wedding and was already becoming “famous” for his work 10 years ago. I was very proud of him. I was always proud of Brian’s art works and progress in his field. Although I didn’t understand the direction he took in college because I viewed art as statues and paintings (he had talent in that area too), I understand it better now that I have viewed responses to his passing on. I saw manerisms that he and my son share in these video clips that make him part of our Mid-Michigan heritage. My son told me that he even helped make one of the video clips when he visited them in California this year. I saw hints in these videos of Brian of what my son saw in him to be called his best friend. I will miss Brian in my son’s life and in mine. I also might be convinced that raw vegetables should serve a bigger purpose in our life now. I wish Tanja all the best and hope that after she grieves, she will find a bright and happy life.
I’ve really been inspired by Oscar and Tanja’s work. I’m very sorry to hear about Oscar’s passing. One of the beautiful connections is that Oscar has contributed so much via his and Tanja’s freshtopia, which lives on!
My condolences to Tanja. I had a chance to meet them and chatted with Oscar for a bit while hanging out in San Fran after Pixelodeon in 2007.
